raw ingredients to make healthy avocado pudding
  • Avocados: you’ll need 2 ripe and unbruised avocados for this pudding recipe. Pick up Hass avocados if they have them at your store for this pudding. They have a milder flavor and are creamier texture than other varieties.
  • Milk: use your milk of choice for this avocado pudding – dairy milk, oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk, and cashew milk are all great options.
  • Cocoa powder: you’ll use a combination of unsweetened cocoa powder and melted chocolate to add tons of chocolatey flavor to this pudding and cover the avocado taste. You can also use cacao powder.
  • Maple syrup: a go-to natural sweetener, add a bit of maple syrup to sweeten your avocado pudding. You can substitute with honey, agave, or 2-3 pitted medjool dates. If using a sugar free sweetener like monkfruit or stevia, use a liquid one rather than the powder for the best results.
  • Chocolate chips: in addition to the cocoa powder, I think this pudding has a better texture and rich chocolate flavor when using some melted chocolate as well. You can use melted chocolate chips or a bar of dark chocolate if you have it on hand.
  • Vanilla extract: adds a hint of flavor that complements the chocolate and helps mask any avocado taste.
  • Pinch sea salt: adds balance and enhances the chocolate flavor.

Variations

Use these variations to customize your avocado pudding to your liking.

Make it vegan or paleo: this yummy recipe is easily adaptable to make a vegan chocolate avocado pudding or even a paleo version. Just use a plant-based milk and dairy free chocolate chips.

Make it keto: avocados are naturally low in carbs, so with a couple of simple swaps you can make a keto chocolate avocado pudding, swap the maple syrup for your go-to sugar free sweetener. You’ll also want to use keto friendly chocolate chips or dark chocolate.

Add other flavors: if you’re a fan of mint chocolate, you can add ¼ teaspoon of peppermint extract to the pudding. Coffee also works well, try substituting the milk with brewed coffee (cooled) or add 1-2 teaspoons of espresso powder to the blender before pureeing. You can also try adding in a tablespoon or two of peanut butter or a few raspberries.

Tools You’ll Need

How to make chocolate avocado pudding thicker

Depending on the size of your avocados, some batches of this pudding may be thinner than others. If you want to thicken up your avocado pudding, consider adding more avocado (¼ to ½), a couple tablespoons of coconut cream, or some ripe banana.

How long does chocolate avocado pudding last?

You can store this avocado pudding in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months. Allow to thaw in the refrigerator before serving from frozen.

I don’t like freezing it because it changes the texture slightly. You can also try freezing it in a popsicle mold for healthy fudgesicles!
