If your favorite part of making cookies is sneaking bites of the dough – you’re going to love this healthy cookie dough dip made with wholesome ingredients. It’s sure to satisfy your craving for a sweet treat but without the sugar crash.

You’ll never guess the secret ingredient for this healthy cookie dough dip recipe. Are you ready? It’s chickpeas!

The star ingredient of your favorite savory dips and hummus is also the secret to creating an edible cookie dough that is gluten-free, egg free, dairy free, and vegan. 

All you need to recreate this chocolate chip cookie dough dip recipe and satisfy that cookie dough craving (in a healthy way) is a handful of simple ingredients like chickpeas, protein powder, almond butter, and chocolate chips.

It tastes just like raw cookie dough, but you don’t have to worry about raw eggs or raw flour.

  • Chickpeas: pureed chickpeas get nice and creamy in the food processor – perfect for cookie dough. (We promise, the finished dip doesn’t taste like beans!) You could use white beans, like cannellini beans, instead.
  • Protein Powder: use your favorite vanilla flavored protein powder to thicken the dip and add extra protein. You may find the texture differs slightly when using whey vs plant-based protein powders. Use a plant-based protein powder to make this easy dessert dip recipe vegan-friendly and dairy free. If your mixture is too thin, add more protein powder or almond butter. 
  • Almond Butter: any nut butters will work for this easy dip, but we like almond butter or cashew butter for a dip that tastes most like a chocolate chip cookie. Peanut butter is also delicious but you do taste the peanut more in the finished dip versus other nut butters. 
  • Pure Maple Syrup: adds natural sweetness to this healthy cookie dough recipe. You can substitute with honey or agave if you prefer. 
  • Vanilla Extract: adds some of that actual cookie dough flavor to this easy cookie dough dip recipe. 
  • Vegan Mini Chocolate Chips: for snacking, we prefer the mini chocolate chips since you get more per bite, but standard dark chocolate chips work fine. Just make sure they are dairy free if you need to make this for a vegan/dairy free eater. You can also use chopped dark chocolate for this sweet cookie dough dip if you’d like.

Variations and Substitutions

Try any of these variations to customize the dip to your personal preferences!

  • Omit the Protein Powder: if you don’t have protein powder on hand or you don’t really like them, just use the same amount of oat flour instead. 
  • Make it thinner: we like a thicker cookie dough that can be spread on a cracker or easily rolled into bites. However, if you want it to be more dippable, add a couple of tablespoons of milk when pureeing in the food processor until you reach the desired consistency. 
  • Try Different Add-ins: feel free to make this dessert dip recipe your own by trying other add-ins instead of chocolate chips. We suggest white chocolate chips, dried fruit (cranberries, cherries), pretzel pieces, toffee bits, or even sprinkles.

Making this healthy cookie dough dip is super simple! Follow the instructions below for your new favorite “sweet” treat.

Process the Chickpeas: start by pureeing the chickpeas and maple syrup first in the food processor until they break down and start to form a paste. Scrape down the sides with a spatula as needed. 

Make the Dough: add the remaining ingredients (except chocolate chips) and puree until smooth. Add the chocolate chips and pulse 2-3 times just to distribute them throughout the dough. Serve: Transfer the delicious cookie dough dip to a serving bowl and serve with fresh fruit, graham crackers, or pretzels for dipping.

Tools You Need

Now that you’ve got your healthy edible cookie dough made, you may be wondering how to enjoy it! We love snacking on this sweet dip with some fresh fruit (like apple slices), salty pretzels, pretzel rods, animal crackers, vanilla wafers, or graham crackers.

You could also spread it onto rice crackers. If you’re looking for something different to serve at your next party, this cookie dough dip would be a great option! 

If you want to add it to other dishes, here are a few of our favorite options:

  • Smoothie Bowls: roll the cookie dough into small balls or spoon it on top of a smoothie bowl. 
  • Banana “Nice-cream”: stir bite size pieces of this cookie dough into a bowl of banana nice cream for a healthier summertime treat. 
  • Dipped in Chocolate: chill the cookie dough so it is easier to roll into bite size balls. Melt chocolate in the microwave and dip the cookie dough balls in the chocolate. Arrange on a parchment lined baking sheet and freeze.

How to Store

Fridge: store this delicious dip in the fridge in an airtight container or bowl topped with plastic wrap for up to 4-5 days.  

Freezer: store the cookie dip in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months. Allow to thaw overnight in the refrigerator to serve.

You can also freeze in bite size pieces.

Just use a tablespoon to form balls out of the dough and freeze on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Once frozen, you can transfer to a ziplock freezer bag. A frozen bite sized treat!

Ingredients 

  • 1 15 oz can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • ¼ cup vanilla protein powder*
  • ¼ cup almond butter
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips*

Instructions 

  • Add chickpeas to a food processor and process until they start to form a paste. You may need to use a spatula to scrape down the sides a couple times.
  • Add the protein powder, almond butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Process until a ball of dough forms.
  • Add chocolate chips and pulse 2-3 times or until the chocolate chips get dispersed in the cookie dough.
  • *Use vegan versions of these ingredients for a vegan-friendly and dairy free dip.

    1. OH SORRY – we will fix it but I did talk to Debbie – our nutritionist who tests and makes the recipes – she said it makes approx 2 cups of cookie dough which is 10 servings !! Each serving is 3 tbsp.
