Shredded chicken is one of the most versatile ingredients to use in a variety of recipes. Whether you cook and shred chicken yourself and keep it in your fridge or you buy a rotisserie chicken to shred, it’s a great healthy protein to always have on hand.

Keeping shredded chicken on hand can also cut your prep time in half. Cooking meat is often the most time-consuming part of a meal, but when you have shredded chicken on hand, it’s a snap to add to your favorite dishes, from soups to enchiladas, casserole, and more.

Plus, since it’s packed with protein, it’s the perfect ingredient to keep you feeling full for longer.

From shredded bbq chicken recipes to Mexican shredded chicken recipes, here are 15 easy, healthy, and innovative ways to use shredded chicken perfect for dinnertime, lunchtime, or anytime!

How To Meal Prep Healthy Shredded Chicken

Before we dive into our shredded chicken recipes, we wanted to share a super quick and easy way to make shredded chicken at home if you prefer to do it yourself.

Step 1: Place chicken breast or chicken thighs in a pot. Season with salt and pepper. You can also add additional herbs and spices depending on what recipes you’ll be using the chicken in.

Step 2: Cover with water (or chicken broth if preferred) about an inch higher than the chicken.

Step 3: Bring to a low simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes.

Step 4: Check for doneness by inserting a meat thermometer. Chicken is cooked at 165 degrees.

Step 5: Remove chicken from water and shred. This can be done by using two forks to pull it apart. Better yet, try this new chicken shredding tool I found and it’s a game changer. I’ve been using it and it works easily and efficiently. Best thing is this chicken shredder is a time saver and the clear top lets you see what you are doing.
