Springtime is often characterized by renewed energy and optimism. As the temperature starts to increase, many of us get a little extra pep in our step and feel more motivated to increase our activity level. This makes it a great time of year to try out some new workouts, clean up your eating habits and refresh your mind. It’s like hitting the refresh button on your New Year’s Resolutions in April! If you’re ready to rekindle your enthusiasm for moving, eating healthier and getting outdoors, I’ve got five new things for you to try this spring.

  1. Hit The Water

Trade in your tired and stale workout routine for a fun water workout this spring! Being in the water can provide a different way to build muscle and get that heart rate up while also being super fun. And you don’t just have to swim laps! Try water aerobics for an awesome workout that will burn up calories while also keeping you cool in the pool. Water workouts are also the perfect solution to reduce pressure on your joints and increase your flexibility due to the buoyancy effect. Check out our fun pool workout below!

Another option when it comes to water workouts is stand-up paddleboarding. Stand-up paddleboarding is one of the most peaceful ways to spend a day on the water while at the same time being a total body workout! From improving your balance to building your core, leg and arm strength, you’re guaranteed to feel it the next day! If you’re new to stand up paddleboarding, take a class or grab an experience paddleboarder to join you. And if you don’t own your own equipment, try renting a paddleboard near you and make sure to check out our beginner’s guide!

  1. Hula Hoop

First let me clarify, I’m not talking about the $3 hula-hoop you used to use in grade school gym class (although, when was the last time you gave one of those a whirl?); I’m talking about weighted hula hoops specifically designed for fitness. If you’ve never seen or used these before, they look like your typical hula hoop but are heavier in weight and often larger in diameter. Plus, many of them are specifically designed to break apart so you can hula hoop on the go! It’s a great solo activity when you just want to burn off a few calories or you can incorporate it into your larger workout routines. Give it a whirl for fifteen minutes and your core is sure to feel it. There are even several hula hoop dance workouts you can find on Youtube for a fun and unique calorie burn. Give it a try and feel like a kid again!

  1. Lighten Up Your Snacking

Let’s face it: in the winter, comfort food becomes more like everyday food. If your eating habits could use a boost, focus on incorporating a few more servings of fruits and veggies into your day. Add a side salad to your dinner or snack smart on fruit. I’ve been loving Crispy Green Freeze-Dried Fruit Snacks lately. It has the sweetness of fruit with the crunch of a chip which makes the perfect snack for me when I need something to munch on. And the only ingredients are real fruit – that’s it! I’ve been loving them so much, you can currently find them in my gym bag, my travel bag, my office and my car – ha! What can I say? Once you find something this healthy and delicious, you stick with it.

  1. Spring Clean Your Mind

An area that often gets overlooked when it comes to improving our physical health is mental health! Things like depression, anxiety and chronic stress are on the rise in the U.S. making it more important than ever to focus on your mental health. Make a commitment this spring to set aside time each day for some “mind time.” And may I recommend you spend some time outdoors? Fresh air and meditation, deep breathing, journaling or prayer is a great way to focus on the health of your brain and reduce stress. Plus, there are some amazing apps if you’re new to meditation. I’ll link to a few of them here: Calm, Meditate Me, Head Space.

  1. Playground Workouts

If you’ve got little ones, then you know that the park and playground are about to become your best friend this spring. But don’t reserve all the fun for the kiddos! Things like monkey bars, benches, steps, swings and more can be used for a full body workout that’s no joke! Don’t believe me? Check out our full playground workout here. Don’t waste time by just watching the kids play at the park, join in and take advantage of the equipment right in front of you. No kiddos at home? No worries – grab a friend or just go solo!

What do you think? Are you ready to try some new things this spring? Do a new outdoor activity, snack on Crispy Green Freeze Dried Fruit Snacks and set aside some time for your mental health. With these new healthy changes, you’ll be summer ready in no time!
